The Modified Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation only focuses on continuous chest
compressions. When a man collapses, there is still enough oxygen to the system. In order to circulate
oxygen supply, doing chest compressions non-stop will put enough pressure of blood going to the heart
and brain. If you will stop pumping on the chest, the oxygen supply will also stop which will risk the life of
the person.
The first step to do is call 911; then you try waking the person by rubbing on the chest. If the
person still is not responding, put the heel of your hand at the center of the victim’s chest and the other
hand on top of it and push as hard as you could at about 2 inches and then pump for 100 per minute or
think of the rhythm of the Bee Gee’s song, staying alive. Don’t stop until help or ambulance arrives. Don’t
worry on hurting the person. If you will not do this, the person will be dead.
The old way to do CPR is to check first for airway or breathing of the person
or checking the pulse. This will cause delay in oxygen supply. Seconds is very crucial for the
person. By first doing the chest compression, the oxygen reserve from the last breath will be circulated.
This method is easier to remember and do. You don’t need to count for breaths and no
need to blow on someone’s mouth.
Continuous chest compression is ideal for adults and not for children or drowning. Standard CPR or the
old way is necessary for these victims.
